Providing help across Dorset

We recognise that not everyone can visit our Centre in Poole: most people who are blind or partially sighted in Dorset are elderly - 80% are aged 75 or older, and many have other physical problems which restrict their ability to travel, while many live in rural parts of the county with poor transport links.

To make sure that everybody can access our Equipment Service, we can come to you, using our two Sight and Hearing Equipment Vehicles.

The service was originally started in the west of the County using a van which was kindly donated by a local businessman, Alan Old of Olds Portesham. The National Lottery supported the service for 5 years until 2014 and now we are looking for a new sponsor.

800 visits a year

The vehicles travel across Dorset, taking the Equipment Service directly into people's homes and local community venues. Last year alone the service made nearly 800 visits.

70 %

The service makes a real positive difference

With the benefit of the equipment provided, 70% of service users said in a recent survey they had improved resilience to cope with the impact of their sight loss.
