Bournemouth Hospital

The Eye Unit at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital is the largest and busiest hospital eye Unit in Dorset. We provide a Support Service there which gives non-medical information and advice about sight loss.

The service is staffed by Tiffany, who is herself registered blind and therefore has real empathy for anyone else experiencing serious sight loss.

Dorset Blind Charity Volunteering

We offer people the time and compassion they need to help them come to terms with the problems with their sight. Our service complements the medical advice already given by hospital staff and also ensures people know where to go for practical help after they leave the hospital.

Helps 1,600 people a year

This service helps over 1,600 people each year, providing them with impartial, non-medical advice and information about sight loss conditions. It is also an informal counselling service for people experiencing sight loss and struggling with the emotional impact this may bring.

Many people have their first contact with us here, so we are able to signpost them to our other services and local council support services.
