Our Services
Our Services

At Dorset Blind Association, we are dedicated to breaking down barriers caused by sight loss, ensuring everyone can lead fulfilling lives.

Our services are designed to support individuals in adjusting to life with sight loss and empowering them to live as independently as they choose.

Our principle services are

Community Support Service

Our team of experienced support workers are dedicated professionals in sight loss, as well as the services and practical support available. Located across Dorset, they’ll visit members across the county to talk through the help available. They’ll also check in with people regularly to ensure the support they’re getting continues to be right for them.

Social Clubs
A significant challenge for many visually impaired people is maintaining an active social life. We provide over 20 social clubs and activity groups across Dorset where people can meet regularly. People with sight loss face mobility challenges so we provide transport for many of these clubs.

Activities
Our activity clubs include book club, film club, indoor bowls, acoustic shooting and more. We even have an annual driving day!

Equipment & Advice
Our Equipment and Advice service, based in Poole, has a range of specialist items and aids to help make living with sight loss easier. There is a resources and equipment section in each of our charity shops. We also offer a mobile service which makes home visits across the county to ensure the service is fully accessible to all, wherever they live and whatever their circumstances. In addition, we offer an extensive audio library and a transcription service.

Home visitors/Phone buddies

Discover the warmth of companionship and practical assistance through our Home Visitors Program. Whether through in-person visits or friendly phone calls, our dedicated volunteers are here to support individuals with sight loss in their day-to-day lives.

Volunteer visitors build friendships and trust while providing ongoing, practical support. A Community Support Worker will get to know you first, matching you with a volunteer who shares your interests. Many of our matches have evolved into lifelong friendships, some spanning over 30 years!
